We invite you to consult this page: which waste to put in the composter.
Where can I put my Ecovi® apartment composter?
Your Ecovi composter can be placed in your kitchen, in a cellar, a garage or on a balcony in the shade. However, it is important to ensure that your composter is always properly closed. This is important to avoid attracting insects!
The compartment is perfectly insulated thanks to its hermetic cover, if your supply of Ecovi® composting activator is sufficient, and if you do not exceed 21 days of fermentation, the microorganisms found there will limit odours. When you open the composter you will notice a slight sweet and sour smell of fermentation, it is at this moment that you must empty your composter. Your garbage bags will no longer smell because your organic waste is now in your Ecovi® composter.
When you take the compost out of the compartment and mix it with the soil on your terrace, in your garden, you will smell like compost. Be careful not to leave your composter at a temperature above 25°C.
The average duration of use of the 1Kg bag is 4 months, depending on the number of people in the household and the diet of its members (vegetarian or not). However, the activator can be stored for 2 years in a dry place.
I don't get dry compost like an outdoor composter?
Indeed, what you get does not look like a dry, brown compost like your outdoor composter. You will obtain a moist compost in which you can still distinguish the shape and colour of the waste. This is why we advise you to pre-cut your waste before introducing it into the composter, and especially to always pack it well with the compressor, both to evacuate the water, but also the air and thus promote the activity of anaerobic active microorganisms (not loving oxygen). This compost can then be transformed into compost either in the Stock'compost Ecovi bag or in the MIDTOWN rotary composter.
You can put it outside, however, in summer, be careful not to expose it to the sun. The temperature would be much too high. In winter, beware of frost, the composter would not be able to resist it!
For composting to be carried out correctly, the temperature must be between 8°c and 24°C. Below 8°c, the microorganisms stop working and above 24° it is a methanisation process that is initiated, you may have unpleasant odours. Leaving it indoors where the average temperature is 20° all year round is much better.
You have certainly left your composter closed for several days, and this is perfectly normal. These are mushrooms that have developed, as in the maturing of cheeses. The mycelium of the fungi spreads through the composter. Nothing to worry about, your compost is ready. It is now enough to empty it.
You can store your compost in the "stock'compost" bag, this bag allows you to store your compost and transform it into compost. You can also empty your composter into the MIDTOWN rotary composter
There are different ways to use your compost:
You can mix it with soil in the following proportions: 2/3 soil and 1/3 compost and put it in your pots and planters.
You can place it directly in a hole near the shrubs you want to feed.
You can still incorporate it into your outdoor composter, this will improve the result of your outdoor composting.
You can dry it for 1 day by spreading it in a corner of your garden and then store it in a bag of compost.
You can spread it along your vegetable rows this will improve soil fertility.
The liquid fertilizer must be diluted to the 10th degree to be used as fertilizer. It can be stored in hermetic and opaque bottles (such as milk bottles). You can also empty your liquid fertilizer into the toilet, the bacteria will clean the walls of the pipes. But the best solution is to use liquid fertilizer for one of the hydroponic cultivation kits we offer, and thus produce beautiful vegetables.
Excellent news, the compost obtained with the Ecovi® composter is very rich in nutrients, and this attracts wildlife from the soil. This fauna detects the presence of compost and rises massively to the surface to feed on it, the benefits you get from it are multiple and surprising:
First you will succeed in loosening and softening your soil in depth without the need for bevelling or ploughing. The soil fauna will do the work for you.
You improve the bacterial life of your soil. This life contributes to the fertility and quality of your land.
In addition, insects will attract birds, hedgehogs and other natural predators, which will significantly improve the biodiversity of your garden. In fact, your Ecovi® compost will feed the ecosystem in your garden.
So don't worry, it's nature taking over!
First, try tilting your composter forward and turning on the tap, which is usually enough to solve your problem. However, if the problem persists, it is possible that too small a waste may pass through the filter and clog the tap, in which case you should empty your composter and check the tap. Do not hesitate to unscrew the tap by hand to clean it, make sure to tighten it again afterwards.
The composter has a leak!
The composter consists of several parts that are dismantled to ensure the composter is cleaned every six months. If you notice a leak, most of the time it is simply the valve that is not tightened properly. It is therefore necessary to empty the composter completely and tighten the tap nut inside the composter. You can then test the composter by introducing two litres of water to check if the leak persists.
Don't worry, the liquid fertilizer should be emptied after a maximum of 5 to 10 days of use at the first use. If the fertilizer remains too long it ferments and gives off an organic smell. It is not very serious for its use, but it can be unpleasant. We therefore recommend that you systematically empty the liquid fertilizer as regularly as possible.
